Easy Planning

Planning can be as easy or as complicated as you make it, Once you have built up enough resources and planning you can use them each year and just keep adding to it. You need 2 to 3 types of planning these are

  • Short term planning (Weekly) just have a weekly table with around 5 rows once for each week of the month and do 2 or 3 planned activities per week.
  • Medium term planning (Monthly) make a topic web you can find a blank one to use on the topic web planning page of this website. Just plan 1 or 2 activities for each of the 6 area's of the EYFS. There are lots of pre filled topic webs on the website as well so this should be a lot easier.Or alternatively you could have a chart with 5 rows one for each week of the month.
  • Long term planning (Seasonal) I have a chart with four rows one for spring, one for summer, one for autumn and one for winter. For these i just put a couple of seasonal activity idea's into it like christmas, easter, chinese new year, diwali, summer holiday.

Personally i do not do the long term planning as everything is already there and I always know in my head what we will do for seasonal events. But a lot of others do it is down to personal choice.

Now you also need to do individual child planning, This is written in the child's early learning journey book in the planned activities pages, The way i do this is by following on from an earlier observation, Then I refer to one of my topic webs you can find these on the topic webs page and choose an activity from there, so if i have made an observation on something to do with colours then i would choose something from the colour topic web.

My Resources Folder

I keep a consatina type folder that i store all my topic webs and resources like flashcards, colouring pages, bingo games, posters etc. It is all filled alphabetically and also some filled under the month of the year this helps me easily access my resources for a particular subject.. Examples

  • People who help us (filled under P)
  • Christmas (filled under December)

I keep a chart at the front where I write any useful websites that I have got resources from so that I can go back to the website if I need to.

It is also worth putting some blank pages in with any of your filled resources so that you can jot any additional idea's you get for a particular topic.

If you look at the pictures of my file there is a part at the front for me to put a back up CD of all the files for the resources so that I can easily print them off. My file cost me about £3.99 so they are definately worth investing in.
